Hey all,

I'm a Canadian citizen, currently a second year student taking Biomedical Engineering (at Carleton). The program I'm in is actually considered Pre-Med. I was thinking of medical school and was wondering is it impossible to get in as they say it is. Just wanted to know general information on what would be needed to get into a Medical School here in Canada. Also, what would be my best bet into getting in.

Thanks

Application to med school (in Ontario) is done through OMSAS. Start by reading the bare minimum requirements at the Ontario schools. You can also browse through the application booklet for an idea of how the process works (timing, fees, etc.)

Then search individual schools for the admission stats of their most recent class; this will give you an idea of whether you are competitive or not. For example, at the U of T the AVERAGE accepted GPA was 3.89/4.00 and average MCAT was 32Q (10,11,11).

MCAT info here.

Closer to home, the U of Ottawa doesn't require the MCAT at present according to the website, but I couldn't find admission stats. You could search the forum here for info on what sort of GPA would be competitive.
