I practice in a community where there is a local PM&R doctor who has being doing stem cell treatments on his patients for several years. However, he has been using the treatments also for Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson among other neurological conditions. He right now is being investigated by the Medical Board. My concern is how can I educate my patients so that they avoid spending so much money on something that has no indication. Patients seem very gullible in my area. What can be done on this matter? I feel really frustrated cause I sometime try to sell the PRP treatment to patients that have an indication (Ex, have failed previous conservative management of therapy, medication and corticosteroid injection) but they seem reluctant to spend that kind of money. This doctor on the other hand has had patient spend close to 10 thousand dollars to have their Multiple sclerosis or other neurodegenerative disease treated.
