I am having trouble deciding on how to rank some of the New York programs. Can anyone share their thoughts and possibly rank these 4:

Mt. Sinai
Downstate
Cornell
St. Luke's

Thanks everyone!

Hi there. It depends on what you want from residency, but imho as a fellow applicant, Cornell > Mt. Sinai > Downstate > St. Lukes. Mt. Sinai is probably clinically stronger, but Cornell is more academic. I'm curious to see what others thinks as well, and also including NYEEI, Columbia and NYU.

Thanks for your thoughts! I am looking for a program with more of a clinical than academic emphasis. And while I got a great feeling from Cornell during the iv day, I don't think it compares clinically to Downstate or Sinai (I could be wrong?).

It was hard for me to get a true sense of Sinai's program in terms of resident happiness, faculty support, etc.. Does anyone know more about Sinai and willing to share?

Thanks again!

The 3 strongest programs in terms of volume in the NYC area are UMDNJ, NYEE, and Downstate. The rest don't compare. Mt Sinai is the better of the other 3 you mentioned clinically and from speaking with the residents, they seem happy. Cornell has a good faculty but not the numbers but have really fancy clinics.

I agree with your initial impression and some of the other posts. I really liked Columbia, thought the numbers were good and the faculty excellent. Residents seemed happy. Disclaimer: I am from the program so I am a little biased 😉

Downstate seems like an amazing clinical experience. Do the residents seem happy? Also, does anyone know what their call schedule is? (I forgot to write it down)

Thanks!
