What's up fellow SDNers, the question of the day revolves around AdComs and other pre-med advisors at schools. It has come to my attention by a variety of individuals that the pre-med advisor from my school was at my top choice med school for a "meeting"

It would be impossible to explain all I know (concrete and intuitively), but I'm wondering, if you are "knocking on the door" at a school, and are on a waitlist, would the pre-med advisor from your school be nice enough to go to the school that you apply to and put in some good words for you? With all the trials and tribulations of this process, this seems like an unbelievably cool act, and I have reason to believe that it happened.

Now, the advantage for the advisor would be that he/she could boost my university's numbers for matriculators into good med schools. In that way, it seems to be in his/her self-interest. It also could be that some people know various advisors at certain med schools intimately, and they often talk to each other.

In any case, have you guys ever heard of this? I was shocked to a certain extent, but I was also truly grateful that it might have happened. An unexpected boost in the med school process? I thought, "it couldn't be!"

Well, just wondering if you know about it

HOLLA

could have happened. i know that at my school, there's about 6 or 7 schools around the country that we seem to have a "special" relationship with, and it is recommended that pretty much everyone from my school apply to these places. we send anywhere from 3 or 4 to 20 students each year to some of these places. I have no idea what goes on behind closed doors- obviously these med schools have been pleased with the performance of our students over the years, or they wouldn't keep taking them in, but i'm sure that if the advisor really likes someone and thinks they would make a great addition to a med school, that advisor would stick their neck out a bit for you if they had a good relationship with the admissions officials.
