im a freshman in college, and i have this problem with my psych class...the problem is...it's quite possibly the most boring hour and 20 minutes of my life. the prof puts up a power point about each chapter, and gives us copies of each slide in a packet...then simply reads from it....that's it..nothing else....the tests arent much harder....so i have a hard time motivating myself to go and sit through this class...anyone got some tips about sitting through realllllllllllllllll boring classes, anything to keep me sane..cuz even though i dont go to the classes...i still feel a lil guilt and paranoia about it....any tips at all?

If you don't need to go, don't go. If you do need to go (at least to get the packets), you can sit in the back and do something like draw. Keep up with the readings and the packets, and you should be fine in the class, n'est-ce pas?

can you skip and still do well? there will plenty of boring classes that are going to be taking in the future, so you cant let that stop you.

if you have a laptop, bring it and sit in the back and post on SDN

thats pretty much what im doing right now.

thanks, i just get this lil voice in my head everytime i skip a class that says "the medical schools see everything" haha, but im glad to see this is all normal.

all they see is your grade. stop the suffering if you can.
my intro psych class was extremely boring. i probably went to 3 classes during the semester.

Rahhhhh!!! I say to you

hey that's exactly what i was going to say...i speak from experience 😎

I had the same problem with intro psych. (I signed up to take it twice and could never stand the lectures beyond the first week.) I thought the topic was important though so I just signed up for psychopathology instead.

Still if your stuck in the class now... hmm... Ive got nothing on this one. Be carefull doing crosswords/internet postings cause I have seen more than one professor throw a COMPLETE hissy fit when they find students doing this. Try to stay as engaged as possible and to work on your "Im extremely interested in what you are saying" face. No doubt it will come in handy.

-good luck-

And every once in a while, formulate a half-intelligent question that pertains to the discussion, just to cya.

I've found that beginning your sentence with the phrases "What is the nature of...?" or "How does this correlate with the [insert some topic from a prior reading]...?" and you'll get a smile from the professor and an explanation you can proceed to tune out to.*

*maintain eye contact while he's explaining, though, or scribble furiously in your notebook

👍

I had a useless physics lecture, and my solution was to go there, sit where I wouldn't be a disturbance, and work on my problem sets. Actually attending the class was a motivation to still have "physics time" but I didn't have to waste my time later. And every now and then the professor would mention something important, so since I was there I'd catch it.

Sounds like your class isn't hard enough to actually work on psych during the class. So do what I did during an easy computer science class, and work on other homework (math for me) during the time.
