I shadowed a DO today and it was great. I have some questions about applying.

1) How early can one fill out AACOMAS for next year?
~ May/June exact date unknown

2) Which schools have deposit requirements and how much is it?

3) Are most of the schools on rolling admissions?

4) Which schools are private?

5) For the public schools, do they offer out of state tuition waivers?

UMDNJSOM - need a one year lease in nj and an nj driver's license
TCOM - instate tuition if you get a $1k scholarship
OUCOM - they require you to sign a statement saying that you'll practice in ohio for five years after graduation if you're oos after signing they give instate tuition??

6) Which schools require secondaries? How much is the secondary fee (if any)?
All. Secondary fee need to list these out

7) Which schools typically provide scholarships to help defray the cost of tuition and what is the decision based on (GPA/MCAT/Income, etc)?

DMU - gives half and full tuition scholarships. the cutoff for consideration is a 3.5 gpa and a 30 mcat.
KCOM - suppposedly has a good amount of smaller scholarships, and comp gives smallish scholarships, too.
KCUMB - appear to not give scholarships.
CCOM - appear to not give scholarships.
OSUCOM - gives grants to a small number of students
UNDNJ - i've heard umdnj gives scholarships.

Thanks guys!

I've written term papers that required less time and energy than is needed to answer all of your questions.

You can find all your answers at https://aacomas.aacom.org/

Or at the individual school websites.

You should do research on your own and then ask more specific questions that you can't get answers to.

1) How early can one fill out AACOMAS for next year? I'm assuming there is an advantage to getting your apps in early?

2) Which schools have deposit requirements and how much is it?

3) Are most of the schools on rolling admissions?

4) Which schools are private?

5) For the public schools, do they offer out of state tuition waivers? For instance, you buy a house there, or are offered a $1000 scholarship making you eligible to pay instate rates, or you get to pay instate after a year - something like that?

6) Which schools require secondaries? I know TCOM does. How much is the secondary fee (if any)?

7) Which schools typically provide scholarships to help defray the cost of tuition and what is the decision based on (GPA/MCAT/Income, etc)?

I don't think it's that hard to search for all the answers.

LOL! Yes you need to learn the search function especially since you have plenty of time. but I'll help you out with a couple.

1) How early can one fill out AACOMAS for next year? I'm assuming there is an advantage to getting your apps in early?

If you stay on this website someone will eventually post when AACOMAS opens for registration. You might want to start checking around the end of May.

5) For the public schools, do they offer out of state tuition waivers? For instance, you buy a house there, or are offered a $1000 scholarship making you eligible to pay instate rates, or you get to pay instate after a year - something like that?

UMDNJSOM makes it easy to get instate tuition if you are out-of-state and follow some simple steps.

6) Which schools require secondaries? I know TCOM does. How much is the secondary fee (if any)?

pretty much all do at some point.

well, since the search in not functioning right now, i guess i'll answer some of the questions.

all schools require secondaries and secondary fees that range from about $50 to $75. wvsom and nycom don't send the secondary until you're invited for an interview, so i guess they don't require secondaries of applicants not deemed worthy of an interview. some secondaries are really easy and just ask for basic biographical information. some, like comp's, require tons of detail and four essays.

umdnj makes it easy to get instate tuition (just need a one year lease in nj and an nj driver's license). i've heard tcom gives instate tuition if you get a $1k scholarship (usual practice for texas schools in all areas). tcom's pretty hard to get into from oos, though. it does not appear to be easy to get instate tuition at wvsom, msucom or osucom. don't know about oucom, but i do know they require you to sign a statement saying that you'll practice in ohio for five years after graduation if you're oos.

oh yeah, scholarships. dmu gives half and full tuition scholarships. the cutoff for consideration is a 3.5 gpa and a 30 mcat. kcom suppposedly has a good amount of smaller scholarships, and comp gives smallish scholarships, too. kcumb and ccom appear to not give scholarships. osucom gives grants to a small number of students, and i've heard umdnj gives scholarships.

Thanks guys! I'll edit my original post and add the info from your posts. Hopefully, this can become a sticky and help the next guy who has to go through this.

There is at least 1 out-of-stater in my class who received a very large scholarship from the school.

i'm wondering what they look for with scholarships. my numbers are well-above osu's average numbers, and i got nada. the weird thing is i did get a scholarship from ou. needless to say ou got my $100, not osu.
