Hi there,

I will appreciate if someone could share with me some features of UNLV dental school. I heard that this is a new school, so do they have State-of-the-art facilities and technology? Do they pay attention to community outreach program? Will they provide community outreach opportunities to 3rd or 4th-year students? Which one are they more focus on, research or clinic training? Do the 3rd and 4th year students need take classes or only do the internship? Thank you guys in advance.

Honestly I'm just starting at UNLV next week so I don't really know all the in's-and-out's of the school. But I did interview there, got accepted, and going there so I've done more research than others here on SDN.

My thoughts: The facilities and technology seem to be newer and up-to-date. The clinic seems nice and sim lab is great. I have only seen 3 other dental schools labs (UCLA, Midwestern-AZ, and Indiana), and UNLV is not behind any of those schools. They have CAD CAM technology at the school (and available to students), which I think will be extremely important in the future, so that was a huge plus for me.

They do a lot of community outreach programs in Vegas, which is one of the reasons why I really liked the school in the first place. Like UCLA does in LA, UNLV hosts clinics for homeless people and single women in Vegas during the weekends throughout the semester. I hope to get involved with this -- seems cool, gives you more experience, helps people, etc.

I know the school is trying to undertake more and more research, so there are going to be opportunities for that most definitely. I worked at a cariology lab during undergrad and my interviewer specifically mentioned that I may be a good fit for their new research on that topic. Clinically I really enjoyed during my interview that beginning D3's had already done many root canals, some crowns, and tons of fillings/extractions. I recall being impressed as to how much work they had already done considering I interviewed on the first day of interviews (in late September of 2017), and it was early in the new schoolyear.

Again, I have not attended the school yet at all. Orientation is next week, so don't take all what I say as 100% set-in-stone. This is from what I have gathered. Let me know if you have any other questions that I can attempt to answer with my limited knowledge haha

Thank you soooo much for your sharing! You're awesome! 👍Congratulations on being accepted by the UNLV! Also, if you don't mind, can I ask you more questions? :happy:Could tell me some other special points about this school if possible? What do you think is the key to your success in the interview? What do interviewers value most? Thank you a thousand times over.
