I am thinking about applying to this school for the next application cycle, and I was wondering what the general opinion is of the school and their occupational therapy program. Is it difficult to get admitted, and do students typically receive any type of financial aid other than loans to help pay for their expensive cost of tuition?

Also, for those who have visited or went to school here, is the school in a safe area as far as crime goes? I have heard stories about the crime in this city, and I was wondering if the school is in a high crime area and if it is difficult for students to find nice housing in areas that areas near the school that are not high in crime. Also, I was wondering if traffic is a huge problem in the area where the campus is located. I am hoping to visit the campus as soon as I can, but I would love to hear some opinions from people on here who have attended or visited campus.

Hi Southerngirl, I have lived in St Louis my whole life and will be attending the MOT program at Wash U this fall. Like all MOT programs, it is very competitive. I applied last year as well and did not get in, they told me there was over 500 applicants for about 80 spots. What are your stats? I think something they look for besides grades and GRE are things like volunteer experience, observations, and leadership roles. I cant really answer your question about financial assistance yet because they haven't started processing FAFSAs yet, but they did offer me a small scholarship off the bat.

St. Louis definitely has some not so safe areas but the Medical Campus is located in a fairly safe place. Currently I live in the suburbs about 25 min away but will be moving closer downtown. Many, many students live on or around the campus in the Central West End, which is a neat area, lots of upscale bars and restaurants and shopping. There is a fine line though between the nice areas and not so nice areas. I am wanting to move to an area called Dogtown because there are houses and duplexes with yards and I am moving with two dogs. Other areas close are Soulard, Maplewood, Brentwood, Clayton, Tower Grove.. Its definitely not hard to find a reasonably priced place. And St Louis's downtown isnt too trafficy at all.. Hope I was somewhat helpful. Good luck 🙂
