Hey gals and guys, I am new to this forum and I see that many people here are helpful and really supportive of each other. I had a few binding questions to those who have taken the DAT

1. There were at least 10-15 posts on FRAP, Piano passage, Ethics passage, etc.

Why was the ethics passage so difficult in the first place? Was it because the questions weren't in "search and destroy format"? People seem to be complaining about this section with little discussion upon why it is so difficult.

2. I checked the DAT results of most people and saw that rarely anyone got +20 on QR. I may be over-estimating my abilities, but I did 5 QR tests (topscore, Kaplan, ADA sample (got 30 on this), barrons) with a bit of reviewing, and got 27-30 on most of them. Is the actual DAT a lot harder than all of the questions out on the market? Please let me know.

3. OC seems to be my weakest (I almost failed OC in my sophomore year) and I have absolutely no clue on how to start studying. All the resources I have are;
a) KAPLAN 2008-2009 BLUE BOOK
b) Schaum's GC + OC
c) Barron's Guide
d) Plethora of tests from markets

Do I just memorize the reactions flat out? What is the best method of studying OC? Thank you so much for your help folks. 🙂

2) I too was getting high scores on the practice tests (24-28) and only scored a 20 on the QR on the DAT (not complaining just pointing out a difference) I think you will be fine on the actual QR, just don't expect a 30, there were a couple of tough questions, but as long as you are good at time management and skipping and coming back to questions you will be alright

3) Orgo was my weakest pre-DAT subject as well and I wound up getting a 22 using Kaplan materials. I would recommend knowing the reactants and products of as many reactions as possible, not necessarily the mechanisms. Know Sn1, Sn2, E1, and E2 as well as possible and know rearrangements, ortho-para/meta directors, deactivators.
Just start making notecards for the things you're having trouble with and you can nail Orgo

Hope I was some help 🙂

sure is helping!

hmm, guess i have to polish up on the math on some weak areas then...like some stupid trig + geo formulas

thanks 😀

what were your scores for practice tests in OC?

Also, is the real DAT just like the way it looks in Topscore- each question has the passage below it..... ( and you cn scroll down the passage)?

or do u have the long passage one side of the screen, and you have to come back to it for every question?

hey florida-premed

didnt do single q on OC yet. I finally finished prepping Bio, GC and QR with a little bit of PAT and RC. For the next 2 wks, its gonna be hardcore OC 😀

For Quant I could get almost all of them right if I had 2 hours to do them all...lol
I think the biggest factor is TIME...
Make sure you're timing yourself when you do your Quant sections otherwise it's quite pointless...

Destroyer is awesome for orgo...!
