Some questions regarding applying to anesthesiology

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You should apply as early as you can, after which you can delegate letters to go to individual programs, I believe. Most people do not have all their letters at this point, and if some come in later you can add them in at that point. For instance, you may feel that your research experience may help you more at a certain program but not carry as much weight elseehere - i believe you can import more than 4 letters and choose which ones go to which programs. Similarly, you can tailor your personal statement to each program.

A big mistake Ive seen in the past is people delaying their application until they have all their letters ready. Some programs are giving interviews out very early and if your app isnt in (even if it is not complete with LOR) then you may miss out on that first round of interviews.

Someone correct me if this has changed, but that is the way it was when i applied.

Still the same. Get your app in the first day, then worry about LORs. I had started to get some interviews last year without any letters being up.

Thank you for your responses Idiopathic and partydoc. Just one more question.

From my available letter of recommendations I have/will-have available to send, which ones would you recommend to designate to the different programs (I have uploaded all of the ones I have available)? I can have 4 letters in before September 15'th if I don't include the one from the M4 anesthesiology elective I'm doing this month. Do you think it'd be best to include this letter? Also, do you think I should include the letter from my chairman? I've never worked with him but he writes letters for all students interested in anesthesiology after a detailed interview and he says that most students use his letters for applying to residency.

Some programs may require a letter from a chair- use it for those. Otherwise, pick the 4 letters that you think will be the best.
