I'm a junior right now and plan on taking the MCAT at the end of Spring 2010 or early summer of 2010. Do you think these would be the best possible times? I'll begin studying from this christmas break. My questions:

1. I'm really weak in Intro Biology stuff, so I want to study that this summer. What book should I use specifically for the biology section? Kaplan, Exam krackers, etc. Btw, I also have my Biology text book.

2. I have't taken any of the upper level biology courses yet. I'm taking Biochemistry I this fall though and genetics in the spring. I can take genetics this fall, however the prof is pretty bad (only 8 % of the class makes an A or A-) compared to the one that teaches in spring. Do you think I should I take genetics this fall or wait till the spring? Also, genetics is a prequisite for cell biology so I have take that into consideration as well.

Thanks.

Yea just pick a date and roll with it man.

1. biology- people say EK biol is good.

2. As far as the genetics and biochemistry classes go, you should ask your counselor and classmates instead since none of us here knows what school you go to nor about the teachers and the degree of difficulty of the classes. Hm... for me, I took biochem one semester and then genetics another.

Does genetics help on the Biology portion of the mcat? If you had to pick either cell biology or genetics concerning their importance on mcat, which one would you choose?

hm.... i heard from people lately that genetics has had a significant presence so I'd go with genetics more? Also, genetics problems would probably be some stuff that they like to put on there because it involves some critical thinking whereas cell bio I think is more memory stuff. But not positive.... just an opinion.

I took Biology about 3 years ago and didn't understand it well even though I made an excellent grade in it. The prof was just too easy I suppose. Is EK MCAT Bio recommended for someone like me with weak biology background?

Well I'm just speaking generally about what material is good to use. However, I read that the princeton review material is more in-depth so if you are weak in biology I would say go with princeton review then. I would say though that EK books are good in that they are colorful and explain things in a different way but feel they are more condensed. Honestly, I don't know why people would generally gear towards EK biol but I've heard using this was good from a friend who got a 36 on his mcat.
