Hey eveyone, I am completely cluess so ill really appreciate any help 😕... I would love to get into an anaesthesiology residency. Im an International medical graduate, so i know its a little bit harder. I got a 216/89 on step 1, and my cs score should be in by december. I have just started reading for step 2. Now, my question is, should i apply to match this year and try to do step 2ck as fast as i can, and hopefully finish it on time. Or do you guys think its wiser to study for step 2, and apply next year? The problem is, for me to try and match this year, that means i should have step 2ck done by dec 31st right? and i just dont know if i can do it in 2.5 months, and lets say i do finish it by that time, arent my doors pretty much closed anyways cuz im sending my score in so late Im just really confused if i should start studying for ck, or if i should be applying right now. Any advice will be appreciated, thank you so much guys..🙂

what? apply now, like today. it is getting late. i am not aware of a rule that says you have to complete step two by dec 31st.... why do you think you have to complete step two? can you get here to do an away rotation...i guess nov and dec are the only months left?

Isnt the cut off dec 31st, that way the hospitals will have your marks by the time matching starts in march? Ive completed medical school and am done with my rotations....

what cutoff? i don't think that you need step two in time for the match. someone else with more experience have a different answer........

you have 2.5 months to study for the CK...most people spend 2 weeks to a month at the most. you don't have to wait on your scores to get back to submit your app. get your application in NOW if you want to apply this year.

I haven't heard of a Dec 31st deadline either. The deadline our academic affairs office gave us was dec 31st for Step 2cs and Valentines for step 2ck only because that will give enough time for results to get back before graduation. Majority of 4th years I know from last year and the year before took it in Feb and March because they didn't want to do worse than Step 1 and jeopardize the match.

My med school just says we need step 2 ck and cs done by the time we graduate. No dec 31 here... You definitely don't need it for the sake of applying for programs, that's for sure

Please keep in mind that FMG's/IMG's have to play by different rules..... Unlike US or DO students, FMG's/IMG's must have a passing CS score before they can be ranked....but I'm not sure if that applies for Step 2. You should ask your Deans office or ECFMG for that answer. However, especially since you are an IMG you should try to have all your scores in as soon as possible because programs need a way to compare you to other US students. I have heard of certain programs not offering interviews to IMGs/FMGs until all of their scores being reported.

that is not entirely true.
Basically you will need ALL your scores before the rank order list deadline.
But you don't need them all to apply.
At least technically.... see, the problem is that majority of the programs will require having the ECFMG IN HAND before they will grant you an interview.
But that being said there are some exceptions. You'll have to look into each specific program's requirements (usually posted on their home web page) or just email PDs directly with a question: will you consider my application with only Step 1 score at this time? and don't forget to mention that you're planning on taking Step 2 by the end of December.

You are correct....start applying widely now. All you need to apply to programs is a pasing step 1. AFter applying you will get invites/rejections. Start interviewing. As an FMG....YOU will need passing scores for step 2 (ck/CS) by the end of FEB to remain in the match.

You can still scramble if your passing scores are not available by the end of FEB.......esp, if you have interviewed at programs who have unmatched positions.

My school has a Dec 31st completion deadline..esp for CK. It should be in from what I heard because you need it before graduating from med school. This could just be what i hear from my school and friends/resources @ other med schools.
