Hey everyone,

This is my first time posting, but I have been lingering around this forum for a while now. Anyways, I have some questions, but first let me tell you the story. So, I'm currently a sophomore in a very small high school (about 8 high school students), and my school does not offer any AP classes, and only offers honors English, and currently for math, I am taking Pre-calculus. I don't have any real special or outstanding EC'S. All of my EC'S are not related with school, as my school offers nothing. 🙁 My EC'S util now are volunteering at a hospital (almost done with 100 hours.) And i'm currently helping out my dad at his shop (so that counts as work/volunteer, don't know yet). My current GPA is 4.0, and I'm doing really well in all my classes.

Now here comes the confusing part for me. My school allows students to dual enroll, and I plan to do it this fall term (I'll be a junior). I will be taking Freshman Comp, along with some other courses. Now, I'm not worried about those courses, but I am worried about courses such as College Algebra, or Chemistry. (currently taking Biology sophomore year because school didn't offer it in Freshman year.) I don't want to screw up my GPA, by taking those classes at the CC, but I completely DESPISE my current school, and cannot fathom the idea that I will have to go back there to take any more courses. Therefore, I really want to believe that I CAN, and am mentally capable taking the more difficult classes at the CC. However, because I don't want to screw up my GPA, i'm reluctant to take it there. So I'm really in a tough spot, and need some advice.

P.S. I HATE MY SCHOOL, THAT IS WHY I AM RELUCTANT TO TAKE ANY CLASSES THERE. Most of the kids there are complete idiots who don't know anything. There is no competition there, instead everyone is content with mediocrity. I hate it.

I understand that I even if I may hate my school, I have to do what is necessary to keep up my GPA.... but again what is your take on this, and please let me know, maybe even with some concrete facts or opinions... 🙂

Sorry for the long post, and I appreciate the effort of those who read this terribly long post, and help me out. Thanks 🙂

Eh, I don't forsee any problem as long as you had a foundation in high school. For example if you took algebra 1 and geometry, then you probably are fine for college algebra. Likewise if you have some exposure to basic chemistry in high school, you should be fine in college.
So go ahead, but realize that these grades will follow you for the rest of your college career. So don't feel hesitant to take general classes as opposed to more BCMP classes.

If you think you can do it, then do it. I've been taking college classes since junior year like you plan to do, so my advice would be to take your Gen Ed classes, which are usually very easy courses, so then when you start college as a freshman, you can take more interesting and higher level courses. Regarding pre reqs, it's perfectly okay to take some at a CC but you'll be expected to do well in more advanced courses once you get to college.

If you think you can hack it, then take them. Keep in mind that you'd be well served to do it right the first time and do well in them -- but at the same time, you have many semesters of college classes that will go into your BCPM / overall GPA as it'll appear on your applications in a few years.

Now, as for you creating the name "Young Prodigy" and bashing your fellow HS students because you think they're "complete idiots who don't know anything"...

yea i know...cocky much...but that wasn't my intentions, honest. It's just that the kids in my school are so uneager to learn, and that really pisses me off. They're fine with 70's as their final grades, even though they have some potential to at least get a B. But hey, I can't wait till i'm gone from there. 🙂 And, i know, not everyone loves to learn...but they can at least put some effort... and thanks for the advice...but i'm still reluctant to take the hard classes at the CC...anyone else have their opinion...?

What, in your opinion, constitutes a 'hard' class? I recommend taking a couple non-science courses (History/English) and knocking them out of the park. Then test the waters with a Biology course or another fairly straight forward science course. As has been said, be careful not to tank in a science course. It will require you take more science courses, (and do quite well) in order to equalize your sGPA. Good luck, 'Young Prodigy'.
