I just got my DAT results back, and I'm debating if i should retake my DAT again.

RC: 18

CHEM:20
AA:19
TS:19
PAT:22

I'm aiming for U.S. dental schools, like NYU, BU and case. My total/sci gpa for my undergrad is 3.44/3.52, and it's 3.63/3.64 with my dental hygiene program. I'm currently a dental hygienist working in a dental office, and I did many volunteer work. I hope to get some suggestions in terms of my chance of getting in and if I should retake my DAT. Thanks!

..I am a hygienist as well, my DAT is 18AA, 20Sci, GPA 3.3 for both, I interviewed at three schools and waitlisted at all of them. I have been out of school for ten years so that is not helping me much.

From my experience, I would say call the schools you are interested in and ask them. The ansewer you will get on this website is to retake because most are over acheivers. But most do not have your background so ask the schools before taking any of our advices regarding a retake.

Best of luck

Ok here are the facts:
-schools look at total GPA and total science GPA (they wont look at undergrad separately from the hygiene GPA)
-Your total and sGPA are awesme! 3.63 and 3.64 are really great.
- You probably have a shot but you have to apply early i.e. June 1st and apply to 20 or more schools. Dont look at NYU and BU alone because they might outright reject you and you will be screwed.

If you apply really early and apply to a ton of schools I can see you getting at least 1 acceptance because your GPA is really good and your DAT is average. Include schools like Midwestern IL and AZ, LECOM and Roseman and USC. Your chances of getting accepted will increase.

I personally would not retake unless you get rejected after your first try.

Good luck.

Like wired said, you have a chance if you apply really early. If you do take the DAT again make sure you knock it out!

But I would not suggest applying to 20 schools, that would cost a lot of money. I suggest applying to the private schools mentioned above along with your state schools.
