I dont know if i can post this here. But if someone can help me please do.My husband recently had a CT scan for an ear infection and had an intraventricular cyst.he has no symptoms and this is an incidental finding .The following is the detailed report.can someone suggest what we should do next.THe family physician is saying cysts are normal and we need not get worried.

History 31 year old male with sudden onset of left sided headache

Technique Contiguous 5mm axial CT cuts were obtained from skull base to vertex

Findings There is focal dilatation of the body of the right lateral ventricle. This is associated with lateral displacement of the calcifications in the right choroid plexus and the attenuation of the enlarged portion of the ventricle appears slightly lower than the attenuation in the remainder of the ventricular system. Specifically, there is evidence that this may actually represent an intraventricular cyst rather than focal hydrocephalus.
If this is a cyst ,it measures approximately 4.6x 1.9 cm.The third and fourth ventricles are normal in appearance. There is no dilatation of the frontal, temoral or occipital horns of the lateral ventricle. No evidence of acute intracranial hemorrhage. No midline shift.

Impression
1.Suspect Intraventricular Cyst in the Body of the Right Lateral Ventricle.Recommend Correlation with MRI.

2.No evidence of Acute Intracranial Hemorrhage or Other Parenchymal Abnormality.

Not that these boards are intended for medical advice (nor am I a neurologist) here's what I would probably do....

Go see a neurologist and/or
MRI.

care

MRI of the brain is good, repeat it in 6 month or if he is having symptoms,( acute ha, dizzyness etc) keep a neurologist close, and see one once a year, sometimes cyst stay the same size for ever. he is 31, he has very good chances
of having a great life, I hope is not doing any serious Sports, or drinking too much or things like that, if he is just a regular fellow I think he is going to be ok. Well I am not a neurologist. so you need to see one anyway. But my father used to say "What aint broken dont fix it" What do you think...

Hi,

Your husband NEEDS to be seen by a neurologist. Headaches associated with cysts are no joke. I woudln't be immediately worried, but I would want you to see a good neurologist. I'm replying to you because I do NOT want you to be lulled into a sense of security from the previous, and rather irresponsible, post. Better safe than sorry.

Some things I would like to ask you:
1. Is your husband's headache on both sides, in the front?
2. Does he ever faint when he has this headache?
3. Has this headache come on multiple times?
4. Is it a sudden onset, but brief and intermittent headache?
5. Is it relieved by certain maneuvers, like lying down?

The safest bet is to schedule an appt with a neurologist, but reply to me if you'd like advice. I'm on neurology right now and can try and help as much as i can.
