Hi!

I'll be starting med school next year (very excited) and was told that students will frequently bring their laptops to class for lectures. I do have a Dell laptop that works fine, but the thing is it's so large and heavy (15" widescreen, ~9lbs). Is there something else less bulky that I can buy that is relatively inexpensive (under $500 perhaps) that i could electronically use in class? Are there laptops/tablets/pdas that would work well for taking notes during lectures? Thanks for any help 🙂

get a pda and buy a fold out full size keyboard - make sure the pda has 'documents to go' if a palm OS based version and you will have access to word, excel, powerpoint. at the end of the day you'll be able to sync with your laptop and have all the files saved on your hard drive. plus you'll be able to review those docs anywhere you take the pda.

my own preferences would be a treo or a T/X with the palm fold out wirless keyboard - although there are new laser keyboards out there now which you may also want to check out.

DOctorJay is right. The TX pairing with a keyboard (I have a Thinkoutside Bluetooth KB) is just an indispensible "twins"; and the price of having this "ultramobile pc" is far much cheaper than getting the cheapest laptops in town. Some lecture halls with such narrow tables and benches, make it almost impossible to place a normal laptop on them -- unless u r rich enough to get urself those Sony 11.1" or Fujitsu series laptops (cost u a bomb!)

So, the Palm TX + foldable keyboard is the way to go. U may try the PPC, but i can say that the speed of a Palm is so much superior to that of PPCs! 🙂
