I got a C+ in a Very hard Chem 2 course because my teacher was extremely difficult as opposed to other ones yata yata and in order to do what we have in URI, is the second grade option, you have to have a C- or lower, so, this may sound wierd to some of you guys but its irreversible, I told her to change it to a C-, therefore enabling me to do the second grade option, meaning if I get an A when I retake the class, it will replace the "C-" grade, but it will still be on the transcript, not shown, how do you think Dent schools feel about this? Hopefully positive if I get an A when it is retaken yes?

HELP!

I dont understand how can a class be on a transcript without a mark or a letter beside it 😕
I would suggest you take the C+ and go on, do better in other classes, you said that it was a hard class, how do you think you can get an A the second time around?
I had a C+ in Orgo II and got interviewed and accepted at Dental Schools, was never asked about it.

Im sorry if I wasnt clear, but the grade shows up on the transcript, but is not counted in your GPA. I knew a friend that wasnt to bright and did better than me only because his teacher was easier, and thats who I will have. I knew the material but my teacher would trick students...

Oh ok, that makes sense, and I know all about those tough proffs.
However, you should do a search for the lowest grades SDN members have during undergrads, and you will quickly realize that many have C's and D's in Orgo I or II and still got into dental schools. The decsion is up to you, but I am just letting you know, it's not the end of the world if you do bad in Orgo (eventhough it's a pre-req.), just move on and do better in other classes and you should be fine, good luck.

Me too...and I also was accepted. Bashar, make sure to limit the C's, especially in the pre-reqs...but a C/C+ here or there never hurt anybody...in fact sometimes schools prefer a 3.7/3.8/3.9 student over a 4.0 student because the 3.7/3.8/3.9 student knows what its like to receive a grade lower than an A and will be able to handle themselves when they dont get a 4.0 in dental school.

My dad told me a guy in his dental class committed suicide when he got a B- because he never got anything lower than an A/A- in undergrad and dental school. Is a B- really worth your life?? I am not saying that its ok to get all C's, but if you can bounce back and get all A's and B's from here on out, then the chem class was actually a blessing in disguise and made you work that much harder to get the grades you want. If you have all C's, thats another story but seeing how old you are and how many more courses you have to take, I wouldnt worry about it. Its not worth it to re-take it especially because: 1) in life there are no guarantees and 2) when you go to fill out the AADSAS course list on the application to dental school although URI doesnt include the original course in your GPA (if you end up with an A the second time around), AADSAS will count the course and it will hurt your GPA. Schools will see you re-took the class and if you have decent grades (aside from this chem course) might question why you re-took it in the first place. Learn from your mistake...find out who the "easier" profs are, study harder and get good grades. Besides, its not about individual courses, but your so-called "body of work", i.e. your overall gpa and course load per semester. Its all good...and I think you are at an extreme advantage knowing so early on in your undergrad career that you want to do this...you have 3 more years to eradicate the C+ you earned in a hard chem class.

I have to admit I beat myself up when I got a C+ in Orgo 2, but realized later on it wasnt worth it...that C+ ended up being the only grade I have received that was lower than a B in all of my science courses (~80 hrs worth) and it helped give me motivation for future classes. Good luck!

Thanks for the info guys, its CHM 102 class, not organic 2, I had an A in 101, and now a C+, I emailed the professor and asked him to revert the grade back to C+, I will learn from this definetely, thanks guys 🙂

I must say that I agree with the other folks. A C+ is not all that bad in the big scheme of things. Besides, if you retake the class, you will be EXPECTED to get an A. If the second time around you did not get an A, it would probably hurt you more overall than just accepting the C+ the first time.

Personally, I thought Chem II was harder than my entire year of Organic.

Best of luck to you!
