so i just got home from taking my DAT and here's how it went:

PA 21
QR 18
RC 16
BIO 23
GC 22
OC 23
TS 22
AA 20

i got hit hard in reading comp with alot of questions about tone, attitude and "what would be a good sentence to finish the paragraph" kinds of stuff. i e-submitted my application yesterday so i was just curious what kind of results i would get.

you did really well in the sciences, but that RC score is low. For some schools, RC is as important as the TS. So I think retaking it might be your best bet, but you can just roll the dice and see what happens.

never mind, do not retake. with a gpa that high, I dont think it matter so much

With a 16 in RC, you're going to have to retake. Most schools require a minimum of 17 in all sections.

That said, I would call the schools that you are interested in applying to and see what they say about the 16.

if u have to retake just for RC thats CRAZY! and would SUCK bc ur other scores are impressive. who knows i bet theres dental schools who'll look past ur RC? depending on ur gpa

I graduated with a 3.95 GPA in 2009 and have been working in a dental office as an assistant since

haha wow if i was an adcom, id give u a shot even despite the RC (bc who cares we all know how to read.......but apparently some schools care alot), but what do i know. 😱

They care because the massive volume of information you have to get through in limited time.

3.9 + 20AA + 22TS... whats not to like? Sure the 16RC is a blackeye but, you have strong overall numbers. Apply to 15+ schools and I believe you'll get in.

i sent out my applications yesterday and sent them to 21 schools sooo i am hoping that i will land a couple of interviews and an admittance.

i used the DAT destroyer for the sciences along if cliffs AP bio...destroyer was on point with the types of questions and definitely a little more challenging. crack dat pat was a good representation of the real thing as well. i used top score for practice and i thought topscore was harder in the sciences (i was getting like 18's on the sciences)

and no i didn't get pianoed i just got a ton of questions about the theme, authors attitude and "which sentence would this agree with" kind of stuff (of course my weakest area in RC)

If I was a dental school I think I would say to myself. "Okay, he has an almost flawless GPA, I am going to guess that this kid can read." But it doesn't matter what I think...

Several of the schools I interviewed at said a very similar statement regarding the importance of the RC scores. That is it one of the first scores they look at.

One of my interviewers said that they had a drop-off in pass rates in the last 2 years because they had brought in foreign applicants with high science scores and miserable RC scores. Supposedly it wasn't an issue with the previous format of the 2nd part of the boards, but they changed it to be more RC intensive and it showed in first time pass rates.

The bottom line: RC has become a more important score than in previous years. It may hurt your application.

Lol...you guys are funny. He is fine. I applied to 13 schools, got 10 interviews, I had a 3.5 GPA and about the same DAT scores including a 16 in RC.....

Whoa, which schools did you apply to? Was UoP one of them? I think I remember them saying that RC is really important to them.

UoP is one of them, it's where I am going

but that being said...I do remember reading that 17 or better is a requirement for UoP.. I didn't have a 17 so I don't know how that worked out lol. My overall DAT scores were slightly higher than op

I agree with this poster. OP your acceptance letter/call is coming soon buddy. :highfive:Great job! Now get some REST.

How is it you guys develop RC skills for the DAT? I'm pretty decent at reading but I feel that I get bogged down while doing the DAT reading section. It isn't that I dont understand what i'm reading I just run out of time or have to hunt for answers and get slowed down.

In your guys' opinion what is the best resource for DAT RC the OP can use ... and me too 😀

yeah that's pretty much what happened I ran out of time. I used a Kaplan book for rc practice but when I took the test it was tough there was wasn't alot of questions to search and destroy. more kinds of questions you really had to think about.

how many acceptances did you have?

I only attended 3 of the interviews and got accepted to all 3. I withdrew from the other 7 without attending the interviews. You'll be okay, you are a solid applicant, good luck!

*EDIT* oh and PS, don't apply to tufts. They wouldn't even look at my application because I had a 16 in RC (they require minimum of 17 in all sections).
