Hi everyone,
I have an interview at Emory coming up. Does anyone have an idea whether it's necessary to rent a car from the airport or is there decent public transport/shuttle service available?
Thanks 🙂

The airport is about 20-60 minutes from downtown Atlanta, depending on traffic. (Traffic in Atlanta is second only to LA for being the worst in the nation.) The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) sucks. MARTA doesn't cover much outside of downtown Atlanta. They might have a shuttle that goes to the airport. Their website is www.itsmarta.com.

Good luck with your interview!

Depends where you are going.... MARTA has an airport station and will get you to midtown and downtown very easily and cheaply. For my interview (obgyn) they have us staying at a midtown hotel right by a MARTA stop, so I am not planning on renting a car. But, if you need to get all over town, MARTA probably won't be of much use.

As an Atlanta resident, I agree that Marta generally sucks. However, it will take you directly into the airport, so you really just need to get to the closest Marta station by taxi or have someone drop you off. Then it's just $1.75 into the airport.

For my interview at Emory they suggested staying at the Holiday Inn in Decatur (404-371-0204). Its a bit expensive, but they have an Emory rate ($99) and apparently they are just two blocks from the Decatur MARTA stop. Also they have a shuttle that will take you right to the hospital. If you stay there you shouldn't have to rent a car.

Hi guys,
thanks for the suggestions. I'm staying at the University Inn. Presumably, it's near the hospital but I have no idea if that's near a MARTA stop.

It's pretty close to the Emory University Hospital, but not close to a MARTA train station. The #6 bus runs right by it and will take you to a station, though. If you need to get to Grady (downtown ATL) there's an Emory-Grady shuttle that goes back and forth. Emory also owns Crawford Long hospital which is also near downtown. I'm not sure how to get there w/o a car.

I worked there as a lab tech for 4.5 years, if you want to know anything else.

"A pretty large metropolitan area..." Ha! That's an understatement if I ever heard one! 🙂

The diameter of the city has more than doubled over the past ten years. I think there's satellite photos somewhere showing this.

A car will also let you explore metro Atlanta, a pretty large metropolitan area.
