i'm not an urm. gpa 3.2 (upward trend), mcat 29. former engineer, where i designed medical devices & conducted clinical trials for fda. now a medical assistant with leadership responsibilities at a community clinic.

and the catch? my secondaries will be sumbitted just in time for the 3/1 deadlines. schools: azcom, ccom, comp, pcom(philly & ga), tucom (ca & nv), umdnj, nycom. aacomas submitted in august.

i know early is better. i'm watilisted at some allo schools. do i have a shot at d.o. this late in the game?

tough to say b/c it is pretty late in the cycle...but DO schools usually love people w/ meaningful life experiences (ie not the stereotypical cookie-cutter pre-med).....so...a shot?...yes......a good one?...only 1 way to find out for sure...

LORs and DO letter are in already?
you called to confirm being complete at each school?

:luck:

letters were in months ago (confirmed).
actual secondaries have been sent (en route).

do you need a LOR from a DO in order to a DO school or can is one from a MD good enough?

I would be careful if you are interviewed. Your post makes it seem like becoming a DO was a secondary plan. It would be a HUGE mistake to come across that way during any interviews.

Just something to think about. Why did you wait so long to apply to DO schools anyway? You said you were waitlisted at allo schools so you obviously sent them in first ie higher priority. Just wondering.

i'd be happy as a d.o. or m.d.
the only reason m.d. is a 1st choice for me is to avoid having to explain osteo to people all the time.

obviously i wouldn't imply in an interview that d.o. is not my first choice. i have enormous respect for both degrees and i consider them totally equal. unfortunately it's what other people perceive that's my concern. but like i said, i'd be truly honored to have either degree.
