So I logged on to UT Southwestern's website and I found out I was placed on the alternate list. I assume this is like a waiting list but does anyone know more about this? Is the alternate list ranked? What are your chances of eventually getting in if you're on this list? When does movement from this list into the accepted pool take place? Thanks for any info.

i got on the alternate list too. im just wondering what place im on it?

From past posts on SDN it seems that UTSW ranks their list in three tiers. I think that you might be able to call and ask what tier you are in, and that there is a lot of movement for the folks that decide on Baylor or other places in the country. I don't know when you can call in and ask, but I remember reading something about this on a thread during last year's match. Good luck, hopefully we will be classmates!

I am also on the alternate list. I spoke with someone in the admissions office today. She said the committee will soon meet to determine whether they will rank the alternate list candidates or not, as right now they are just in a pool. That seems somewhat strange to me, since they've already ranked us once. She said that more information about that will be available towards the end of this month or early March. She said to call back around then. I assume you won't get much more information if you call now, but I guess it's worth a try. I didn't press for details but asked whether they use the alternate list or not, and she only confirmed they did and that the number accepted off of it each year fluctuates. From her tone she seemed confident that they would use it again this year. I also spoke with a friend who matched at SW who told me (this part is entirely anecdotal and may be completely incorrect) that she heard from a current student that SW only matched something like 250 candidates. I thought that was kind of low for a class that I believe is around 220. Surely several people will be turning it down for Baylor or other big names. we'll see.

I was waitlisted as well and I got a call from the Dean in June. Sit tight and hold on...there is sure to be a lot of movement from the waitlist simply becuase a lot of UTSW applicants also get in to other top schools and many choose to go elsewhere...esp. if they only match 250 to begin with (although I have no clue if that is true or not.)

I forgot to mention, I'm out of state as well. I wonder how that affects my chances of eventually being accepted. On one hand, there are far less people that I'm waiting for to decide not to attend SW (since I can basically only be accepted if an out of stater decides not to attend.) At the same time, perhaps the out of staters that make it are more inclined to another school, especially since their numbers should be pretty high. I'm sure no one would have info on the chances of out of staters on the waitlist at SW so I'm just going to hang tight and see what happens.

I talked to the admissions office and they said that they have about 180 people on the waitlist and it is split up into quarters. I know that they have sent letters out for people in the top quarter, but i am not sure about any others. Does anybody know if the waitlist has started moving yet? Is anybody on the waitlist for UTSW and already accepted to UTSA..... UTSA starts so early... i hope that the list gets moving pretty soon.... or else viva la San Antonio!!

i do believe they have sent out waitlist letters to everyone on the list to let them know what quarter they are in. the waitlist information they sent states that they typically do not make admissions offers from the waitlist until late may, since may 15 is the date by which applicants must decide on one single acceptance to hold if they have multiple ones.

and yup... i'm in the same boat, waitlist at SW and accepted at UTHSCSA so that's where i'll probably be heading. and yes... they do start super early!

bumpity bump bump.... do tha bumpty

I too am waitlisted at Southwestern and at San Antonio. Accepted to TCOM but highly prefer SA ( my first choice) . Does anybody know about SA waitlist? Is it ranked or a pool and has there been any movement ? Guess we just have to wait until May to find out for sure. I would hate to have to move to SA and get ready for class with four weeks notice. 😱
