I am also on the alternate list. I spoke with someone in the admissions office today. She said the committee will soon meet to determine whether they will rank the alternate list candidates or not, as right now they are just in a pool. That seems somewhat strange to me, since they've already ranked us once. She said that more information about that will be available towards the end of this month or early March. She said to call back around then. I assume you won't get much more information if you call now, but I guess it's worth a try. I didn't press for details but asked whether they use the alternate list or not, and she only confirmed they did and that the number accepted off of it each year fluctuates. From her tone she seemed confident that they would use it again this year. I also spoke with a friend who matched at SW who told me (this part is entirely anecdotal and may be completely incorrect) that she heard from a current student that SW only matched something like 250 candidates. I thought that was kind of low for a class that I believe is around 220. Surely several people will be turning it down for Baylor or other big names. we'll see.
