So if the general stereotype is that DO schools are more concerned with life-experiences and realizations than MD schools, would it be advisable to beef up the ECs by a huge amount instead of stressing a large amount over GPA?

I mean ideally you want both, but I guess you can really skew you application one way or another. I guess going the GPA route is more nerve wracking 😱

Just try your best and do as much as you can so that you can be competitive for MD and DO schools!!!

EC's can only get you so far. The easiest way to judge the multitude of applications is by your MCAT and GPA. A lot of apps are never even read if they are below the minimums for the schools you are looking at. You are better off spending the time bettering your scores than putting up your 14th house for Habitat for Humanity.

That said, you need good EC's on your app too... but don't ever lie about them and don't even exaggerate... because that can backfire on you.

ECs are a necessary but not sufficient condition. People are impressed with long term commitment, leadership and level of effort. GPA and MCAT are more important. A 3.0/24 are minimums, below either and your chances are small. What is your MCAT/GPA?
