Hello! Recommendations for high volume spay/neuter externships besides the ASPCA north carolina one (full already for my school 🙂)

Oh, that's a shame. The ASPCA NC one is so good.

There at least used to be another option up around Duluth, I want to say it was called Twin Ports Spay/Neuter? When my original class was going through the curriculum, I heard great things about that place, but I don't know anyone who has been there since COVID. Might be an option to look into though.

See if you can connect with shelter med faculty at your school for networking. Large shelters may be an option?

Hey, we are in the same class! 🙂 I secured a spay/neuter externship through the AHS and was told they had open availability for our class still. The program has pretty rave reviews on the VCROSS website.

omg, I forgot we had access to VCROSS. I'm going to apply for that one right now. Thank you so much!

I came here to suggest AHS because that's what I did and I had a blast

^^I did a mini-rotation at the Minneapolis AHS and it was neat. They mentioned externships!

I forgot to mention that the AHS externship doesn't fulfill the spay/neuter rotation requirement for our school, but it should be good experience to supplement the U's rotation which I heard can have kind of a light caseload.

Fwiw I’ve heard really positive things about the Duluth program from my classmates who’ve done it this year! If you’ve already got some experience under your belt and can operate somewhat independently, you can do 10+ procedures per day. Sounds like the doc up there is really nice, too, so that’s a big plus.

I ended up signing up for both AHS and TwinPorts in Duluth! I want to get a lot of surgery experience before graduation and have also heard good things about both after inquiring more 🙂
