"special circumstances" questions

so ive read a few searched threads (pharm and med) and just trying to see what you dent folks think.

the following Q's pop up frequently. ex. the ECU app...

(Optional) Describe any special circumstances, not explained elsewhere in your application.


(Optional) Describe any personal characteristics or important challenging circumstances you have had that will contribute to the diversity of, or provide educational benefits to, the student body at ECU, or professional community.

are these Q's more about disabilities or special needs?

some of the other threads say it may have something to do with low gpa explanations, or "my wife lives there" type of answers.

what do you all think?

i wasnt really sure about it at first. but i did put something down for the 1st question. i put how one of my close friends passed away and it set me back in my classes and had to drop my chem2 class.
