  1. Pre-Dental
Hi guys, so I got accepted to WesternU and I know it’s too early to decide right now but was was planning on specializing. I know they’re known for producing General dentists but I wanted to ask if it’s possible specialize? Even though the school is geared towards one thing I got the vibe that the professors were very involved with students and would help then attain a residency. If any current WesternU students could comment on this

I'm under the impression that no matter where you go, if you're around top 20% and get like a 70-75+ on the CBSE with a few externships and/or research, you're bound to match somewhere.

You can specialize from any dental school. It might be easier to specialize from a more traditional dental school that has the specialty you're looking to pursue because you can shadow/work in the department and get LORs from the program director of that specialty (no to mention if they like you enough, they might accept you).

We currently have a 100% specialty match rate for the DMD 2018s. Since there isn't any residency program at the school, students get to treat any case that comes their way. Hence, you'll get a lot of experience in any particular specialty you're looking into. We have students match into pedo, prosth, perio, ortho, oral surgery, and radiology.
