Hi,

I am a recently admitted dental student (starting this fall), and although I don't plan on specializing now, I do want to spend my next 4 years in dental school figuring out whether specializing is for me. As of right now, I just want to keep my options open.

Looking back, I wish I had some kind of mentor when I was applying to dental school because I was pretty much clueless when it came to preparing for and applying to dental schools. It would have been nice to have someone who would tell me how important it was to get research opportunities, shadow a dentist, etc.

So I was hoping I could use this thread to get a sample of information from the dentists and dental students on SDN regarding all of the important things to keep in mind throughout the next 4 years for a dental student who might want to specialize.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

You will do better by searching for threads on this...there are tons of them.

Start by getting good grades, being involved...maybe some research. That will get you through your first 2 years anyways.
