Just curious if anyone plans to specialize in anything in particular? I am going for exotic animal medicine, and holistic medicine. Anyone else?

I'm planning on working with Large animals--mabe even specializing in theriogenology. I love working with cattle!

Why cattle? I am a riding instructor and considered equine medicine, but I know I can't handle it b/c I also work with an equine rescue and it's sad how many horses are brought in overworked and underfed, therefore large animal (except for elephants, big cats, crocodiles etc 😀 ) is not for me.

Good for you! You have excellent career prospects at this point in time! I grew up on a farm (holsteins and jerseys, mostly) and think they are the most animated, emotional creatures known to man. I wish you good luck! 🙂

I'm interested in large animal as well. I'm also interested in oncology. I"ve got time to decide, though.

I love working with the bovine species--I've worked long hard hours running a research trial with grass cattle (mostly charolais steers) pretty much on my own. Now, I'm working on a dairy farm milking 200+ holsteins--I love the physical challenges and the tangible results of working with cattle. I never grew up on a farm, so I've really only found this out recently (i.e. in the last 2 years). The job prospects are great, the hours are brutal, and at the end of the day I could not imagine doing any other job. It's a chance to be a "blue collar" professional---I love to work with my hands doing physical jobs, plus science is my passion--large animal vet is the right fit for me!

Anybody know anything about vet radiology?

Hello every one
cam some one here tell me some informations about applying for residencies in USA or Canada in veterinary medicine and do I need to be licensed (NAVLE) before i apply or is it okay to apply even if i still didnt do it(note :I am an internationl graduate in veterinary medicine )

Thank you
Regards

Shelter medicine and holistic medicine. I might become a board-certified feline practitioner...we'll see.

I worked for a year as a tech in a feline only hospital. It was rough stuff. Hehe, all of the patients there were crazy. And I'm not just talking about the cats. We saw everything from a 30lb cat (looked like a massive watermelon) whose owner was convinced he was starving to the owner of 'the sweetest cat in the world (ie. would tear your hand off in an instant. I was more nervous around him than I am of the cougars/bears I work with now). It was an experience to say the least. I am glad I did it, but I don't think I could do it for a living. I think I'm too much of a dog/snake person 🙂 Good luck with that. We need more people to work in shelter medicine.
