Hey all! I have a question for those of you late in vet school or already in practice, mostly. I guess it's not really important yet, but I'm curious. Who thought, after a good variety of shadowing and work in the field, that you knew what sort of work you wanted to go into, and then changed your mind once in vet school? I'm not talking about changing your mind due to job availability, but because of interest.

I am fairly set on either ER medicine/ surgery or neuro, and I have been working in ER for about 7 months now, but I still have a fair amount if undergrad to go (neuroscience major) I really don't think that I'd be happy in day practice, but I know that most end up there. Just interested to hear some individual experiences!

I am not done with vet school or in my "later years" either, but I have already started to have some interest changes. I always wanted to do general practice/own my own practice.... now I am thinking of specializing in cardiology... I love the heart... love everything about it. I have also found that I really do enjoy the large animals... so we shall see what happens. 🙂

Can't offer a personal anecdote yet, but I've talked to quite a few vets who changed their plans, or were never entirely sure what they wanted to do when they started vet school. They all seem pretty happy with where they ended up. I'd say having your interests change is pretty normal.
