Is it true that if a person wants to go into a specialty it's better to go to a school that is more research oriented, or does it not really matter? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanx!

i believe that's true. however, if you did research anywhere in dental school, that would help.
especially at NIDCR.
also depending on what specialty, such as endo and perio.
