I have a inquiry regarding the PAT section of the DAT. I've practiced it with CDP, but speed is somewhat of an issue. Pattern folding is most difficult for me when it's a cube with lots of non-dice patterns. TFE is hit or miss for me. If I stress and try to make it perfect, I'm too slow and do alright, if I just try to intuit it as best I can, I'm fast and can get about 75% of them correct which isn't stellar.

Hole punching is easily my favorite, and I can get 100% on CDP by inspection with approximately 40 seconds per problem. My complaint is that this is still slow, and I don't seem to get much faster. If possible, I would like to speed up my hole punches so that I can have extra time on other sections. If I make a tic tac toe table ahead of time, I'm slower on some of the easier questions but my overall speed is improved.... I looked the ADA sample but the punch holes were an absolute joke, and I assume that I won't see single holes like that.

I've been informed that one now has grid paper for scratch paper. Do any of you use the grids to make a tic tac toe board ahead of time so that you can blaze the PAT? I didn't know if that was a valid thing or not to do during the tutorial.

I did use the grids to make a "tic tac toe board" ahead of time on my DAT! It worked out great for me, but I did this during extra time I had at the end of the sciences (my testing center specifically told me I couldn't write anything during the tutorial).

Hrmmm yes, I guess I will have to try to do that then... Thanks. Has anyone else been instructed not to write during the tutorial?

I used the tutorial time to write out stuff, I'm pretty sure you're allowed to do whatever you like with your time. I would also write out 20 grids in case you mess up.

This is incorrect. I called the ADA about this in June and they said explicitly that you are not allowed to write anything during the tutorial or the break-i also asked them to verify this with someone higher up, and the answer was the same. My Prometric center said the same thing. If your prometric center lets you do it, just know that it's against ADA rules. Also, the laminated sheets they give already have graph paper printed on them and the grids are a perfect size for hole punching already.

Ooh, well thanks for correcting me, I shall tell my friend who is taking it soon.

Thank you for the answer... I guess I won't be doing that then, although I'm a little disturbed that others are still allowed to do it then since it puts people on a different playing field.
