If you want to be useful, help out in your local community. An un-trained medical "worker" going overseas to "help" in third-world countries is not being useful.

Ouch. Maybe the OP doesn't want to stay home for Spring Break?? If you help out in your community year round and want to help out in another country, by all means go for it. It could never hurt to experience another culture and see first hand what challenges they have with their medical system. Maybe there are some medical missions that need non-medical volunteer support staff.

Sorry I can't help you with your question OP, as I am curious as well.

Depending on your religious affiliation, most campuses have some sort of christian medical association that does the type of mission trps you are asking about. You should probably be prepared to pay your own way though.

usually need 1 month stints, but go to AFRICA and other great places and help kids w/ HIV. Greatest experience in the world. Seriously. If you can get accepted, as pre-med, med student, resident or attending (they are open to a lot of options, often provide free housing), this will change your life. You'll remember why you wanted to be a doctor in the first place. All medicine, none of the BS.

I just checked out the site and they're only accepting MDs. There don't seem to be any opportunities for other levels of medical professionals.
