st. elizabeth caritas

Hospital is in Brighton, MA. A couple of miles from downtown Boston. It is the referral center for the Caritas system which includes other lower acuity Catholic hospitals. Next to Partners, Caritas is a pretty big hospital chain in the region. Pain and cardiac fellowships in house. Childrens for peds rotations, and the Lahey Clinic for SICU and some other bigger case months. I know that they've matched pretty well in the last few years, and the residents that I've met seem happy.

anyone know anything about this program?

When I interviewed I wasn't impressed at all. The faculty seems like a nice group, but the experience was weak. One of the CA-3's told me he felt he had to do a fellowship because he wasn't trained well enough to go right into private practice. That was in late 2003, so I don't know how things have changed since then. I am glad I matched a major academic program.

Ditto to what powermd said. Did surgery rotation as a third-year med student there in 2005. Unless things have changed dramatically, _avoid_. They get fine fellowships but the fact is many have to do those fellowships because they didn't get enough hearts/peds/neuro to begin with. There were a few residents there that were anesthesiologists back in India or Eastern Europe -- if you fit into that category and are looking for a chill place to redo residency...
