st. francis in hartford

Is this true?? I have an externship coming up at St. Francis. I only picked this place because so many upperclassmen went there. Is it really just routine care? I want a residency with a decent amount of surgery. Am I wasting my time visiting there??? Please let me know.

Thank you

I've scrubbed with a few attendings who graduated there when I was on clerkships... seemed proficient for forefoot but weren't boarding much rearfoot. In the end, programs can change fast as attendings come/go or programs are financially or politically pressured to expand and water down their numbers. Go visit and see for yourself to find out the real deal. We are fortunate the A LOT of programs out there today can give you what you need if you apply yourself.

If you fall into hearsay, you might miss out on good programs. That said, the handful of programs you consistently hear good things about and see good, proficient grads come from usually are the real deal.

i dont know who is telling you that this is not a good program. every program has strengths and weaknesses. this is a great bread and butter program. lets face it, 95% of podiatrists will come out of residency and only do surgery once and a while and the majority of it will not be the complex stuff that is seen in the in university setting.

st francis is a great program that offers great clinical and surgical exposure. if you want to get the knife from day 1, and not double scrub residents, then this is for you.

The fact of the matter is you do in practice what you are comfortable with, regardless of training or board status.

Please define "once in a while".

You don't need to be in the university setting to see complex stuff.
