does anyone have a good diagram/table/chart that have the common stab wound to the chest and what structure(s) are damaged? i keep getting these wrong on qbank and i haven't kept track of the questions for the anatomy. thanks.

Hmmm I don't have the table but I can give you a few tips. Know the lung and pleural margins very well. They are drawn in kaplan anatomy book. I guess what most questions test is basically the lung and pleural margins because the costal pleura are kept 2 ribs apart from the lung margins starting sternum (same), midclavicular (6=lungs, 8=pleura), midaxillary (8=lungs, 10=pleura) and paravertebral (10=lungs, 12=pleura). A bonus knowledge would be thoracocentesis and where it's done = 9 or 10th intercostal space, midaxillary ling, avoiding liver and lung on the right side.

Also know the limits of external and internal intercostal muscle. Know where the neurovascular bundle runs (between internal and innermost intercostals; nearer the lower rib margin). Apex of heart is actually covered by lungs and doesn't just strike the ribcage 😉
