Hello everyone on SDN, I'm an East Asian male re-applicant (zero interview invites from round 1) with an international background. I know the odds are bad but I still appreciate your thoughts on this. Thank you in advance.
- Grades - 3.90 cGPA & 4.00 sGPA
- Exam - Most recent: 04/28/17 score 522 (c/p 132 cars 131 b/b 130 p/s 129)
- others: 2016 score 512 (c/p 131 cars 126 b/b 129 p/s/ 126)
- Citizenship - Malaysian with F1-visa
- Ethnicity - East Asian male
- Undergrad - Williams College class of '16, Chemistry major
- Clinical experience - 3 years cardiac telemetry volunteer in hospital (total ~400 hrs)
- Research -
- Paid summer research position during freshman summer, 40 hrs / week for 10 weeks. Molecular biology on Amoeba signaling cascade system
- Paid semester job research TA during entirety of sophomore to sophomore summer to junior year. Organometallics on sulfur drug synthesis catalysis. Presented in a regional american chemical society conference.
- Senior thesis. Throughout senior year and extend to post-bac (See below #11). Polymer material synthesis on drug capsule design.
- Shadowing experience - 40 hrs ophthalmology in a private clinic / 40 hrs large hospital Internist
- Non-clinical volunteering - 2 years grade school music tutor in an underfunded, budget-slashing public school (total ~ 200 hrs)
- Other extracurricular activities -
- Sing in school choir for 4 years, served as President in junior year, celebrated 100th Anniversary, organized a world tour (fundraising, logistics etc)
- Co-designed a cooking course under Chemistry to combine food science and culinary art
- 2 years military service before college as Intelligence specialist back home.
- Awards - Best departmental senior thesis. PI saw potential in experiment progress and decided to keep me for one extra year. Publication incoming in about 2 months.
