Does anyone know if akt and in-service training scores are routinely use in evaluating anesthesia related fellowship candidates?

Does anyone know what scaled score is need to pass the boards? In other words, is it possible to look at a scaled score from an in-service exam and know if this would be a passing score for board certification?

No and no for the AKT and ITE for evaluation of fellowship candidates.

The scaled score this year was a 34 to pass this year, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for the responses UTSW.

Do you or anyone else know any sources for finding out more about the scoring system for the 'ITE'? For example, if one has scored a 30, what does that mean in terms of percentage correct? How far away from a 34 is that?

Also, how do the 4 AKT' s compare to each other? Are 0 and 1 the same, and 6 and 18 the same?

And UTSW, on a personal note, are you planning to do a fellowship next year (I think you're a CA-3)...private practice...academics? :luck:

The ABA website should have all of the pertinent details of the exam.

I'm not sure how the AKT's vary with each other, because at Southwestern, we found no utility for using them other than the AKT 6 for a mid CA-1 evaluation. Twice a month, we provide topic specific question and answer sessions which emphasize understanding the fundamentals of each topic and how to attack the questions as opposed to using the AKT's.

After just a year with this, our scores among all classes jumped tremendously (CA-3 class scored 90th percentile nationally and most would have already passed the exam if taken for real this past year).

You are correct, I am a CA-3 and I am torn between wanting to do a fellowship but having so many lucrative offers from local and west coast groups that all seem to be too good to be true. It is a nice dilemma to have, but I can't believe how depressing it can be not being able to make up your mind. On top of that, one of the local groups took me out to dinner last night and made my decision making even more difficult with all of the factors that they presented about their group (family oriented, minimal call - most not in house, great, GREAT income, great location, etc.). I'm hoping that by next month, I will have decided and started negotiating the details of the contract.

Are you or anyone else facing the same dilemma? I keep trying to talk myself into doing a fellowship, but can't seem to talk myself into another year of education.

AKTs 0 and 1 were the exact same test. AKT 6 was different...somewhat harder. I'll be taking AKT 18 in a few months, so I don't know what that is like.
