I plan to apply to Path next year. Because of my spouse?s career, we have a very strong possibility of moving to San Francisco. Thus, I would really need to match to Stanford or UCSF. I think that I will be a fairly competitive applicant, but want to maximize my chances to match at one of these programs.

I?m considering doing an away rotation. Any suggestions on which program to target? Does one have a history of favoring rotators?

Thanks for the help.

I don't know about away rotations, but I will say that UCSF is tough to get into without an MD/PhD. If you're an MD student, you might have better luck with Stanford. On the other hand, I talked to 2 alums over the past few months: one who went to UCSF and one who went to Stanford, and the UCSF one was much happier with her choice. In fact, the one who went to Stanford transferred after her first year to a different program, and she told me she wasn't the only PGY-1 to leave that year. However, that's just one person's experience, and you might be really happy there. Besides, if you're doing an away rotation, you'll get to see how things work firsthand and can decide whether or not to apply. Good luck!

Thanks for the information!

Has anyone on the board done an away at either of these programs?
