Hello!

First off, I am very fortunate to be in this position! I definitely didn't expect to have these options coming in. I recently received my financial aid offers, and things have become more complicated. I could definitely use some advice—thank you all in advance! Here is my pros and cons list:

Stanford (total cost over 4 years: ~$130k)
  • Pros:
    • (++) Great weather and environment, I am an outdoorsy person who likes hiking, running, etc
    • (+) Some close family in the area (not where my family is from but would be very nice to be around them)
    • (+)Integrated with undergrad campus (good for collaboration and socially, b/c I am a trad applicant)
    • (+) I am slightly interested in innovation/startups
  • Cons:
    • (---) High COA compared to Hopkins
    • (-) Difficult to graduate in 4 years (which I hope to do) due to clerkship arrangement & seems like the culture there encourages extra years
Hopkins (total cost over 4 years: $0)
  • Pros:
    • (+++) Is free for me!! Finances are an important consideration
    • (+) more rigorous clinical training at Hopkins with more diverse pt population
    • (+) have one close family member in a neighboring state
  • Cons:
    • (--) Will see at SLW, but the area is definitely not as nice as cali
    • (-) separate from undergrad campus
    • (-) family is from west coast, further away
Thanks for reading! I really appreciate any insights.

Can you visit both? I think Stanford is pretty awesome, California is a huge plus compared to Baltimore, and 130k is not a totally insane amount of loans (but it is a lot!).

Can't go wrong, but I'm 50/50 on this one.

ah it's hard to justify stanford when you have a free option, but quality of life is absolutely amazing here. I wouldn't choose to be anywhere else. Suburban area with options to go to SF are so ideal for med school, and all the students here are extremely happy! About 15-20 people graduate in 4, but stanford literally pays you to stay for longer to do research which is why many ppl stay. would say it's worth it, but understand if finances are top priority
