I'm hoping to take a vacation before starting prelim Intern year. Would it be advised that I wait til match day to find out when I start or can I safely assume that orientation is a week at most?

Orientation varies by program. Mine was 2 weeks. Other folks had one day. Others one week. Some got paid for that time, some did not. Some had orientation the first couple weeks of residency beginning July 1. Others reported June 15.
