I was wondering how soon after residency people have started working. Has anyone here had an offer renigged because you wanted to take 1-2 months off before starting? thanks.

That would depend on the individual position. Some places want you to start ASAP. Others are more flexible and would be open to you telling them, "I can't start until august." Most people start within a few weeks of finishing residency though.
