Start of academic year?

Does anyone know when most PhD programs begin? I thought it was late August/early Sept but someone told me July 19 recently. I'm asking because I need to notify my employer of approx when I will no longer be working, even though I haven't been accepted they still want to know this far in advance.

It depends on the specific school and when their semester or quarter starts. Also, some advisors offer to fund students to start doing research early. You won't know for sure until you've got an offer in hand. I'd tell them it'll be sometime in the summer if they are giving you a hard time about it.

Usually around the third week of August, but you might need to be there in mid-August for orientations, workshops, etc.
