Started off college on the wrong foot...had pretty bad grades and what not..
but ive shaped up recently, transferred to a school back in my home state and am basically starting over with my prerequisites....

lets say hyopthetically i get As and Bs in my prerequisites classes....
I know the pharmacy schools wiill look into those poor previous years at school, but do I still have a chance to get into pharmacy school? And also my home state college isn't very high in the tiers of schools...does that weigh down a little bit also? I'm going to school at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

by the way just landed on this site and this place is awesome...
good luck to all yall for pharmacy....

Well, I think they'll somewhat consider your previous bad grades, however they will also consider your improvements. Atleast, it shows them that you work hard, and have the passion to learn and fix your past mistakes. Don't be too fixated with your past grades, you can't fix the past. Increase your GPA, study for PCAT, have more extracurricular activities, work in a pharmacy or even volunteer in a hospital, do anything you can to cover your weakness, write a great personal statement, and last but not least apply early.

FYI, I finished my prerequisites in a small community college and I got accepted to a pharmacy school.

All hope isn't lost, but some school will give you a better shot than others. USN will only look at your grades the last 5 years, but you need to have all their prereqs in that time period. Samford and I think TTU (correct me if i'm wrong) only looks at your highest grade when doing their GPAs.

thanks for all the encouraging help...i'm more determined than ever to do what is needed to be done...thanks and gluck to all you out there for pharmacy schools....
btw..this site is awesome

Ppl i got some questions, i am retaking my Bio I class over again and i have 3.47 Cumulative GPA and 3.35 Sci GPA. i Haven’t taken the PCAT yet but planning to take it in October of this year. and here is the big question...can some one honestly let me know if i have chance of getting in to pharmacy school for PharmD degree??? and one more question does anyone know any easy collages that can count as my safety schools???
please help me out here...your help will be appreciated greatly
thankx all

Well, if you did really bad in your other school and you are starting from scratch you should have not told University of Alaska about your other school, that way when you apply to pharmacy school there can be no record of you going to that other school. You could have written off the school you did bad in since you are starting from scratch. But since you probably told university of alaska you went to this other school there is now records there that you went to this other school and you cannot hide your bad grades. So now you have to explain why you did bad to admission people and hopefully that don't use that as a reason to pass on you.

I started off with really crappy grades too. Then I became extremely motivated and transfered to another school with a gpa of 2.65 or something like that. And then had straight A's from then on, and got my gpa up to 3.48. So I think the schools are more concerned with trends in your grades. I'm not sure if transferring to a lower tier school will have a negative effect, but you can always explain your situation in your personal statement and interview if asked.

Can anyone else confirm that TTU does this? Also, is TTU Texas Tech? Thanks

TTU is Texas Tech and they have grade forgiveness, meaning they only look at your highes grade

Wow... I didn't know they had grade forgivenesss. thanks for the information.

Texas Tech takes very few out-of-state students...but if you're a Texan, go for it!
