Hi All,
I've been lurking this message board for the last 6 months or so. I figured it was time to join in on conversation. A little about me-I never went to college "officially". I went to Beauty School after high school, practiced that for the last 4 years, then decided to go to nursing school, realized I liked it, but there is so much more to medicine.I think it was my OR time, I wanted to be the one with the scalpel in my hand. 😎 I finished this summer,Passed my Boards, and will use nursing as my money maker for awhile. I'm starting my undergrad this spring. I know I have a long road ahead, but I'm up for the challenge. Im 25, I don't have any children, long term boyfriend of 7 years.. He's currently working on his Ph.D. So its finally time I start working on my life. I would assume my age make me non traditional? So out of curiosity how many are starting from scratch?

Oh PS I'm a Type 1 diabetic that has also been my fueling drive to dive into medicine...

I figure I was starting from scratch, or rather I have clean my old mess up before I can even continue.

I have to retake almost a full year and a half of classes from about 7 years ago and just about ace everything I take. I am using a provision that Texas offers called the fresh start provision, which allows me to be considered to Tx schools (med, dental, etc.) without my old grades haunting me and dragging down my GPA. So, since I place on using the program, and it is an all or nothing program, I lose classes that I did bad on, as well as classes I aced. It feels like I am starting from scratch because of this.

Good luck on your journey. I fear some of the people I enjoy reading about will be in med school and will have forgotten about this board when it is time for me to apply. It is nice meeting people that have about as long as I do.

You'd be surprised at how many people are loyal SDNers. Just look for the profile badges next to peoples' names. Many users have been on here for 5 and 10+ years. I'm at 3 years myself and I can remember when I was just starting out like it was yesterday. There is so much valuable information on SDN, for those just beginning the journey, to those applying, to those in med school, to those in residency and beyond!
