Like many others, I'll be looking for my first "pain doctor" job soon and would like to get an idea of what I'm worth.

Anyone care to throw out any ballpark figures regarding base salary, productivity bonus and partnership track?

I plan to seek out successful private practice groups, major metropolitan area (West Coast, Chicago, Phoenix or possibly Florida) who do not have any unethical or otherwise unscrupulous dealings, and will be looking for a partnership tract 3 years or less.

I plan on bringing the following skills to the table: injections every 30 minutes intially which will hopefully become every 15 minutes over the course of the 1st year (longer for advanced procedures), 15-25 patients on full clinic days, 5-10 EMG/NCS on full days (depending on complexity), peripheral joint injections, musculoskeletal ultrasound, basic knowledge of the Worker's Comp system, possible QME status (don't know about this one yet).

Thanks.

3. PM me for a more serious answer. I'm preparing for a lecture on this topic next week for my current fellows.

4. Read PAZ's reply to this post and ignore.😀

Thanks,

The reason I posted this is because:

1. Some figures tossed around here previously seem a bit unrealistic and don't correlate with those listed on annual physician compensation surveys.

2. Categories on the aformentioned surveys are usually listed as "pain-management" non-specific or "Anesthesia Pain-Management". As I listed above, I hope to have a few tricks in my bag of skills and realize the manner in which those skills could be utilized could be highly variable depending on a group's focus and practice environment.

3. Unfortunately, I've seen a few friends ahead of me sign on to some pretty poor looking deals, i.e. no possiblility for partnership, low base income, contract reviewed annually, little productivity bonus and lots of scut work. I don't really know why they readily signed on to these contracts, I guess maybe they were overexcited at the prospect of finally having an acutal job. Perhaps not coincidentally these groups happened to be large surgical or pain groups in a large metropolitan area.

I am not a pain mgmt. doc, however, I just wanted to share some information. I live in Las Vegas, NV, and last week I was reading through the paper and decided to look at the physician recruitment area of the classified jobs, and there was an add that said "Seeking qualified pain mgmt doc $300/hour - fax ###-###-####."

It may still be there... not sure.... www.reviewjournal.com/employment
