So I was under the impression that I should take my stat req from the math dept ( ie straight up statistics), but I was reading on harvards site that they prefer biostat. What do you guys think is generally preferred?

Not basing this on any particular knowledge (so take with a grain of salt), but I'd assume biostats. But most likely, they don't even care which one.

don't you need an intro statistics class before you can take biostats? Or at least that was the case at my school. If you can choose, then why not biostats? A bit more relevant, and hey, stats is stats.

At my school we had the option to take stats, or biostats. For me personally biostats was way more fun and relevant so I took that.

At my school biostats was different in many ways though. We used R, while the normal stats class used Minitab. Also most of what we leaned in biostats was taught in the context of biology and focused a lot on applying what we learned to data. So I'd check with how different your biostats and stats classes are.

Biostats is preferred to regular stats.
