I don't understand the definition of state function.
It says state functions are delta H, delta G, deltaE, and delta S.
q and w are not because they depends on path.

work = -p(delta V) and delta V means final V - initial V. Is this what they refer to as path and path means final and initial?
 
State functions refer to the state that they are currently in not really how they got there, where work would kind of show the transition to the state they are in...if that makes sense lol
 
I normally don't like to say this, but don't dwell on it; yes it's somewhat interesting, but it is by no means ever ever going to be tested on the DAT.

Besides, you won't find a good explanation unless you consult a physical chemistry book (Alberty Physical Chemistry).

I don't see how you can explain w/o a graph and some differential calculus...so, if you don't like calculus, you should just forget it.

Just know that in SOME cases it is possible, as you have seen in the case of internal energy.
