States That Require APA Internships For Licensure As A Psychologist?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My most recent check showed that no state requires APA internships but every student should do this research for themselves to be certain. It is fine to start with internet forums but don't rely on them to be up to date.

Until recently, Oklahoma and Mississippi accepted APA only. Now apparently all states will accept non-APA but you may need to submit evidence that the internship meets certain standards by having an extra form completed by your internship director. Sometimes simply being an APPIC site is sufficient; other times you have to get the form done--which is essentially confirming that basic APPIC standards are met regarding hours of supervision, didactics, etc. The NRHSPP standards parallel these, so if you get registered with their service that can also be submitted.

This website http://www.asppb.org/ has a lot of information in one place and is a great start. Always go to the specific state board however to check for the most current information.

I made sure that my internship experience met APPIC and went through the process of being credentialed through the National Register to ensure portability.
