hi anamod,

I noticed your seriously considering u of mn, also being from mn i would really like to hear your thoughts on the school. I asked you this once before but it quickly got buried on that acceptance topic.

Waiting --

With an honors GPA and an ivy league undergraduate background, plus superior DAT scores, and rejected outright by Harvard???

What do you think was the main issue there?

hey stanford...

well, wish I knew and was surprised too (esp. since I got into UCLA as an out of state app which is harder than getting into Harvard) ...although I don't really care any more...but, I think the main thing with Harvard is that they're big on applicants who have major scientific research experience under their belt. I've mainly done behavioral science research but haven't published any papers really (my fist one is pending)...I actually know of others with similar stats to me who also got rejected outright (who again didn't have major research experience)...And I know several people I met on the interview circuit who all seemed to have done major lab work, so I think that's the key with them. Plus, they may have had an issue with my switching from med school to dental...all the schools I interviewed at had no issue with it, or even admired it, but I think Harvard is looking more for people who've wanted to be dentists since the day they were born and haven't pursued other careers first....(ok, mild exaggeration!) 😎

waiting -- you mentioned switching.... you mean you are actually a med student now?
have you decided on UCLA already? i was a east coaster too, but there are really some very attractive things about california.

To all the predental students applying next year, I don't recommend applying to as many schools as I did. I was just overly cautious and wanted to get in somewhere!
