i've heard people calling washu a stats ***** quite a bit on this site, but are there any other schools that are generally considered stats ******?

I wish I could stat ***** 🙁

Wash U, Michigan...

Wash U, Michigan...

Definitely Michigan. They offer automatic interviews to people with extremely high stats (interview is offered before secondary is completed). Not sure what the threshhold is, but I've heard its something like 3.8 and 38 from a top caliber undergrad.

Their final decisions may be less numbers based, but its definitely a numbers happy school. WashU (despite what others in this thread said) also seems pretty numbers heavy. It has higher average GPAs and MCATs than Harvard and Hopkins. Is that because top students choose WashU over those two schools? I doubt it, I think WashU just emphasizes numbers more. (FWIW, I don't think thats really a bad thing, so long as its kept within reason and no completely socially inept individuals are let in. There is a strong positive correlation between MCAT and step 1, step 1 and residency placement, and residency placement and med school prestige.)

That is so not true.

WashU is definitely more stats-driven than other schools. Yes, they look for other things...but when you have average MCAT of 38...and Harvard is 36. It means, you select students more on stats than you do other factors.

I got a pal, Michigan resident who went to school out of state, who did not even get an interview at Michigan. This guy had a fantastic app - 3.85/36, tons of ECs, all the right stuff. The only possible flaw was his undergrad, a well regarded lib arts school, but not an academic powerhouse. Applied EARLY. And no interview at his state public med school?

No loss for him, though...he is happy, thriving at MSSM.

I agree. And I will say this for WashU - if you have high stats but come from a lesser known undergrad, they will offer you an interview, unlike many other top 10 schools that seem to draw from only the top drawer peer institutions. WashU seems to get a more diverse class of achievers from a larger number of undergrad schools than any other top school.
